This holiday is for those that wish to spend a week on the Camino taking their time, admiring the nature and art and discovering the culture, people and stories of the Way. Each day you will walk between 10km and 18km, meaning that you will have plenty of time to stop and explore all of the sights along the Camino. This section follows part of the last section of the Camino Frances (French Way) and you will get to experience the full pilgrim experience by finishing in Santiago de Compostela.
Your way on the Camino de Santiago is made easier by clear sign posting. The famous arrow and the scallop shell will show you the way. Also included in our holiday pack are detailed walking notes and maps making navigation even easier.
Although sometimes physically demanding, it only requires a reasonable level of fitness however, if you feel tired and need a rest, there are bars and restaurants along the way.

14km, 3h30, +242 m / -354 m: The Camino starts on downhill track, passing the village of Casanova and the delightful village of Leboreiro. Your days destination is Melide which sits at an altitude of 454m.

14km, 3h30, +309 m / -382 m: The Camino crosses several streams and follows a forest track bringing you to the village of Boente with its church of Santiago. Next is the medieval village of Ribadiso, and finally Arzùa (389m). This small town has two churches that you will be able to visit, Santa María and La Magdalena.

18km, 4h30, +331 m / -434 m: Passing through woods, sleepy villages and along streams is the majority of today’s walk. The chapel of Santa Irena, with its unique statues of Santiago, is worth a visit. Other than that, the rest of the route to Rua/Opino is on a good and calm country road. Rua (310m) is one of the quietest points before Santiago de Compostela.

9.5km, 2h30, +165 m / -205 m: Rows of tall eucalyptus trees line your journey to Monte del Gozo ("Mount of Joy" 368m) and it is from here that you can catch your first glimpse of the Cathedral of Santiago. After arriving in the city (264m, population 80,000), you can explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site’s architecture and delight in the wonderful atmosphere in this spiritual and cultural mecca.

If you intend to be in Santiago between the 22th and 24th of July, there is an extra €80pps per night spent between these 2 dates. This is because of the Feast of St James that take place during that time. All hotels double their prices and rooms must be booked at least a year in advance.

Our holidays are graded by 3 categories of difficulty: Leisurely, Stimulating and A Challenge. This grading system will allow you to select the ideal holiday for yourself or your group. We aim to offer you the best experiences and unforgettable memories on a holiday where your desire for a challenge, comfort and safety are our priority. As the abilities of everybody are different, it’s important that you decide on a holiday which best suits your own needs and capabilities. You should take some time to look over our grading system so you can decide which holiday is best for you!


How do we grade?
When grading our holidays we take 3 main factors into consideration: Distance, Gradient and Trail Type (i.e. mountain track, forest road, surfaced road, etc.)
Our Easy walking and cycling holidays are best for families with young children. With older children, experience and fitness level should be considered when deciding on a holiday.




Leisurely(1,2)
• Time: Under 5 hours per day on average.
• Gradient: Gentle, no steep climbs
• Trail Type: Walking path, easily accessible
• Suitable for: Everybody. Some easy preparation walks should increase your enjoyment.


Stimulating(3,4)
• Time: 5 to 7 hours / less than 20km per day on average
• Gradient: Up to 1000m ascent per day on average, possibility of some steep climbing
• Trail Type: Walking paths, mountain trails, not technically difficult
• Suitable for: Moderate level of fitness required. Some weekend walks of around 3-4 hours should help your preparation.


A Challenge (5)
• Time: Days can be over 7 hours / 20km
• Gradient: Days can be more than 1000m, some steep climbing
• Trail Type: Walking paths, mountain trails, can be technically difficult
• Suitable for: Good level of fitness required. Previous experience would be best. Regular weekend walks of 4-5 hours or more are advisable in the months leading up to your holiday. These should include some mountain walks.

Fly to and back home from Santiago de Compostela:


Ryanair and Iberia/BA fly direct to Santiago de Compostela from the UK. Ryanair fly from Stansted, Nottingham East Midlands and Liverpool and Aer Lingus operates from Dublin.


Many of the flights that arrive at the airport are from internal Spanish destinations. Iberia and Spanair offer the best selection of flights and you can fly to and from Santiago De Compostela from: Frankfurt, Paris and Rome and Barcelona, Bilbao, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Madrid, Malaga, Palma, Seville, Tenerife, and Valencia.


Ryanair now operates a year round service from Madrid to Santiago de Compostela, twice a day.


To the start of the walk in Palas do Rei:

Back home from Santiago de Compostela:
